What is the difference between cubic zirconia and rhinestones?
A rhinestone is usually glass or acrylic with a reflective foil backing glued behind it. It looks bright when it is new and dulls as the foil clouds or the glue yellows. Cubic zirconia is a hard crystalline stone that is cut and set rather than backed and glued, so light travels through it and comes back rather than bouncing off a mirror behind it. It stays brighter for far longer. It is a small difference on paper and an obvious one after a year.
Where will this necklace sit?
At 17.7 to 19.7 inches it sits lower than a standard 16 inch chain, resting at the collarbone on the short setting and just onto the chest on the long one. That length is the easy one for layering, because it drops below a shorter chain instead of tangling with it. It also works with a higher neckline, where a 16 inch chain would disappear into the collar.
