The Desert Sol Collection is our first line carrying our own name. Forty pieces, designed in house, shipping anywhere in the country. Jewelry in limited runs. Claw clips and scrunchies in a color story pulled from home. Totes and pouches built for actual use. Journals that open flat and stay open.

Every piece here came from someone asking first.

Why we made our own line

Running a shop means listening to the same sentence over and over. A bag that survives a week in the back of a car. A clip that actually holds. Jewelry you could wear from the trail to dinner and back without taking it off in between. We heard those for five years, and we could never quite hand people the thing they were describing.

So we drew it. Every print in this collection was designed in house, which is the reason you will not find these florals anywhere else. The same prickly pear runs across a tote, a pouch and three journals. The Canyon Rose print sits on a notebook and on the claw clip that goes in your hair. Nothing here is a catalog item with our name stamped on it.

Jewelry you can actually wear every day

Most jewelry asks something of you. Take it off before the shower. Store it in a pouch. Polish it every so often. We wanted the opposite, so most of the collection is stainless steel.

Is stainless steel jewelry good for everyday wear?

Yes, and that is the whole reason we chose it. Stainless steel does not tarnish, does not oxidize, does not go dull sitting in a humid bathroom, and does not react with chlorine, sweat or sunscreen. You can shower in it, swim in it and sleep in it. Sterling silver is beautiful and it tarnishes. Plated brass wears through. For a bracelet or a stud, which take more water and more knocks than anything else you own, stainless is the practical answer rather than the fancy one.

Where we wanted a finer chain and more sparkle, we used 925 sterling silver instead. The Sol Drop Necklace is a single 6mm cubic zirconia in a prong setting, so light gets underneath the stone as well as on top. The Dune Necklace is the cluster version for when you want more of a piece.

The Petal shapes are deliberate. The bracelet, the hoop and the studs carry the same flower in different forms, so buying one color across all three gives you a set that reads as intentional rather than matching.

What is a lay flat claw clip?

A lay flat claw sits low and close against your head instead of standing up off it. That means you can lean back into a car seat, a couch or a pillow without it digging in, and it wears comfortably under a hat or a hood. It is the difference between a clip you take out at the end of the day and one you forget you put in. Ours comes in a matte version from $6.99 and an acrylic version from $9.99 in thirteen colorways.

Which claw clip size do I need?

Size by your hair, not by the look. Mini holds a half up twist or finer hair. Standard handles most everyday styles. Classic takes thick hair and a full bun. If you want the strongest grip and the largest shape, the Classic Claw Clip is the one. If you want the clip to be part of the outfit, the Petal Claw Clip has a scalloped edge and our script embossed on the surface.

Are silk scrunchies actually better for your hair?

Silk fibers are smoother than cotton, so they create less friction against the hair. Friction is what lifts the hair cuticle, and a lifted cuticle is what becomes a snag, a split or a break at the hair tie line. Silk also absorbs less moisture than cotton, so your natural oils stay in your hair rather than wicking away overnight. That is why silk gets recommended for fine hair, curls, color treated hair and anyone growing their hair out.

Our Mulberry Silk Scrunchie is 100 percent mulberry silk at 22 momme and 6A grade, which is the highest specification you will find in a hair accessory. Four sizes, five colors, $14.99. The Crystal Silk Scrunchie is the same silk set with tiny rhinestones, for weddings and holidays.

Bags built to be used, not babied

The Utility Tote is made from Tyvek, the material used for house wrap and express mail envelopes. It weighs almost nothing, water runs off it rather than soaking in, and it is remarkably hard to tear even though it feels like paper. Inside there is a canvas lining, a sleeve for a laptop or a notebook, a zip pocket and a key leash so you stop digging. A laptop, a water bottle and a day of everything else fit without the bag losing its shape.

The Packable Pouch, $14.99, is the one you throw in without thinking. Diapers and wipes. Socks kept separate from the rest of the suitcase. The wet swimsuit you would never put in a fabric pouch. It packs flat, it fits inside the tote, and it washes.

Then there are the corduroy pouches, embroidered with prints we drew ourselves. Flat or medium, and the difference is depth rather than size. The flat pouches are wider at 7.1 by 5.1 inches with almost no depth, so they disappear into a tote alongside cards, cords and papers. The medium pouches have 2.6 inches of depth, so they hold their shape on a counter and suit makeup and small toiletries.

What is lay flat sewn binding?

The pages are stitched together in sections and sewn into the spine rather than glued to it. That is why the book opens flat and stays where you put it, so you can write all the way across a spread without holding the page down. Glued notebooks fight you and eventually shed pages. A sewn binding is the difference between a notebook you finish and one you abandon at page thirty.

The Desert Intentions To Do Notebook has TO DO on the front and lives open on a counter. The Wild Bloom Leather Journal is soft enough to fold open in one hand and belongs by the bed. The Desert Plum Leather Journal has the cactus embossed rather than printed, for anyone who does not want a floral. The Canyon Rose Hardcover Notebook is the one people give as a gift, because the line printed inside the cover does the work a card usually has to.

Questions we get asked

Where is the Desert Sol Collection designed?

In Moab, Utah, where our shop is. Every print and every piece in the line was designed in house and made to our specification. We ship nationwide.

Does stainless steel jewelry turn your skin green?

No. Green marks come from copper reacting with the moisture on your skin, which is what happens with plated or copper alloy jewelry as the plating wears. Stainless steel does not react that way, which is why it holds up to daily wear, water and sunscreen.

What is the difference between a journal and a notebook?

Practically, nothing. It is the same object used differently. A notebook tends to hold lists and information you will need again, a journal tends to hold thinking you are doing for its own sake. All six of ours are two hundred lined pages with the same lay flat sewn binding, so pick by cover and by what you plan to put in it.

Can I wear the earrings in the shower?

The stainless steel pieces, yes. They do not tarnish and they do not mind water. If a piercing is still healing, follow your piercer's advice rather than ours.

How often do new pieces come out?

This is the first collection, so the honest answer is that we are still learning the rhythm. Jewelry runs are limited and restock when they restock. A corrected version of the Carryall Tote arrives next month with a gold magnetic button and an added exterior zip pocket.
