Utility Tote

Light enough to forget you are carrying it, tough enough that you stop being careful with it. The Utility Tote is made from Tyvek, so it shrugs off rain, resists tearing, and wipes clean when the coffee goes over.

Inside there is a canvas lining, a sleeve sized for a laptop or a notebook, a zip pocket for the things you do not want loose, and a key leash so you stop digging. One more zip pocket on the outside for whatever you need without opening the bag.

Roughly fifteen by sixteen inches with five inches of depth, so a laptop, a water bottle, and a day's worth of everything else fit without it losing its shape.

What is Tyvek and why make a bag out of it?

Tyvek is a spun bonded polyethylene, the material used for house wrap and express mail envelopes. It weighs almost nothing, water runs off it rather than soaking in, and it is remarkably hard to tear even though it feels like paper. For a bag that means you carry the weight of nothing and still get something you can load up and leave in the rain.

How do you clean it?

The Tyvek exterior wipes down easily and sheds most spills before they settle. The canvas lining inside is more absorbent, so blot spills there as soon as you can and know that some stains will set. When a wipe is not enough, machine wash on gentle with a low spin and let it air dry. Never put it in the dryer.

Utility Tote or Carryall Tote?

Both are Tyvek on the outside and both have a laptop sleeve, a key leash, and an interior zip pocket. The difference is the lining. The Utility Tote is lined in canvas, which gives the interior more structure. The Carryall Tote is Tyvek inside and out, which makes it lighter and easier to clean throughout. Right now the Carryall is available only as a marked down first batch in two colorways, with a corrected version arriving next month.

Are the prints original to Desert Sol?

Yes. Both were drawn in house for Desert Sol. Cactus Bloom and Desert Floral are also the two colorways of the Packable Pouch, which fits inside. The same prickly pear appears on the Desert Intentions To Do Notebook, the Wild Bloom Leather Journal, and the Desert Plum Leather Journal, and the desert floral appears on the Desert Floral Hardcover Journal.
